Winter is gray and cold in Canada, and people often think it can be hard to capture romantic engagement photos.
The truth is the snowy season in Canada provides an unique backdrop, and fall leaves are photography beautifully. I’ve included my top three tips below to inspire you for beautiful fall and winter engagement photos.
1. Fall Foliage
Fall gives us once-a-year show of vibrant colors, and it makes the perfect backdrop for engagement photos. The trickiest part of a fall engagement session is to perfectly time your photoshoot for the brightest fall leaves.
Yes, September is the start to fall, but you should schedule your shoot for late October to early November for the most vibrant colors.
2. Snowy Wonderland
Deep snow photographs like a gateway to Narnia. For the white wonderland vast landscapes, I recommend driving a bit out of the city. Great locations around the Greater Toronto Area include Rattlesnake Point, or the Halton Hills.
We’re all worried about staying warm for our winter engagement shoot. While I love to ask my couples to walk, twirl, and move around at the shoot, it’s still cold. It’s important to layer up underneath your stylish jacket and cute boots. Then, reward yourself with a Starbucks hot chocolate right after.
3. Props: Your ring, and real love.
I’m actually a props minimalist because the two things that have the biggest impact to your photos are the location, and your wardrobe. In lieu of props, I ask couples to polish your ring, and bring real love.
Maybe you’ve been thinking only about summer engagement shoots, but haven’t given a second thought to autumn and winter. Autumn and deep snow can photograph beautifully, and create wonderful engagement memories.
